Sonja Elsegood
Sonja Elsegood has many professional experiences and interests. She is especially interested in computer mediated communication and is a member of Webheads.

Hi everyone, I’m Sonja Elsegood and like many of you I’ve been an adult educator for many years. Over the years I’ve taught ESL and also Indonesian. I’ve also worked with my partner in our own private training & consulting business developing cross-cultural training courses. My most recent ESL job was teaching Academic English and IELTS exam preparation. Currently I am completing a fully online masters of applied linguistics. These studies have made me increasingly interested in computer mediated communication. Recently I’ve joined Webheads and also begun to volunteer for EFI (English for Internet in Real time)

I was born in Holland but migrated to Australia with my family when I was 4 years old. For the past 18 years I’ve lived in beautiful sultry Darwin in the tropical Northern Territory of Australia. What’s special about Darwin is that it’s probably the most multicultural and multiracial capital city in Australia famous for its wonderful Asian style markets, strong indigenous presence, beautiful harbour, stunning sunsets and fabulous wilderness.

Aside from my ESL and other interests I am kept pretty busy with 4 great kids ranging from 5 to 16 years. I know I’m a late starter with this course but hope to catch up this week. Great to read all your stories!

Now our students are on vacation, so I'm attending some conference workshops. Luckily, now I have the opportunity to write this. Hope everybody will benefit from this virtual community.

Renata Chylinski and family
Renata has expertise in many areas of teaching, curriculum development, and program design. Her professional focus, for some time now, has been on teaching and learning languages with technology and a communicative approach to language learning within online communities.

I'm Renata Setmajer-Chylinski . I have been teaching languages, history and social studies in Europe and Australia for twenty years. Over these years I have gained expertise in many areas of teaching, with continuing interest in the area of curriculum development and program design. My professional focus has been, for some time now, teaching and learning languages with technology and more recently, a communicative approach to language learning within online communities and teacher training.

I currently hold the position of Flexible Learning Coordinator at Monash University ELC, where I have established and developed the Computer Assisted Learning Program and Teacher Training in this area. In this capacity I have designed, implemented, trialled and evaluated a range of CALL curricula and syllabi for various programs.

I was involved in co-authoring of the Real English CD ROM series (Wiser Software) and I continue to work with a range of other authoring tools. I have also established and continue to maintain Monash University ELC online learning environments.

Apart from distance education contexts, I initiated teaching in MOOS environments, teaching with Web Quests, the Internet classroom assistant Nicenet, and Yahoo community groups (collaboration with Yazigi International in Brazil). My online resources especially Web-based activities for Learners of English (http://muelc.monint.monash.edu.au/Esl/index.htm), E-news and Views school magazine (http://muelc.monint.monash.edu.au/enews/Default.htm) and Renata’s ESL/CALL Corner (http://members.optushome.com.au/renatachylinski/) are known to and are being used by a wide international community of English teachers.
