Alice (Chiu, Shu-chuan)
Students and parents call her Alice. She's an English teacher, a mother of three boys, an extremely diligent teacher, and a dreamer, too.

My name is Chiu, Shu-chuan, but all my students, their parents call me just Alice. So, Alice is me.

An English teacher with 19 year career span, a graduate student in Educational Technology, a mother of three boys, one Yorkshire and two twin stray cats, a not so hard working wife, but an extremely diligent teacher and a dreamer--that's me too.

I'm here to learn, mostly and to contribute, hopefully. Most of all, I regard learning the most wonderful life experience so I am here to have fun too. As a late comer, it is not enough to just "get my feet wet", so I have to hurry up to immerse myself to the course. Got to work now. See you soon.

Tanyasha Yearwood
Tanyasha's specific research interest is on the use of computer technology in bridging the "digital divide."

I'm Tanyasha Yearwood. Just thought I’d share some bits on myself and my present activities so that you will know who is behind the name Tanyasha.

At present, I am pursuing PhD studies at the University of Essen in Germany in the department of English Studies, Teacher Training and Applied Linguistics (quite a few miles away from my home country, Trindad and Tobago) and my specific research interest is on the use of computer technology in bridging the "digital divide" – however, one might choose to define it.

When I am not pounding away at the literature, I occasionally find time to play badminton. My other out-of-university activities basically involve taking care of my 16-month old son, although my husband, who is working hard at becoming proficient in German, does most of the care giving so that I can get as much time as possible to advance in my studies.

Having been a foreign language teacher at the secondary school level for about 10 years before getting into full time studies, an experience which I find equally as challenging, I must admit that there still seems to be so much to learn on facilitating meaningful language learning experiences, especially at a time when the internet has taken such a prominent place in educational discourse.

I hope that my interaction with the members of this group and with the material we will access, will contribute in a significant way in preparing me for "the road ahead".

Scott
Scott is interested in computer mediated communication in EFL writing instruction.

My name is Scott. I'm from Oregon in the USA. For the past five years I've been team teaching English in primary and secondary schools in and around the Tokyo area of Japan.

Regarding the onlinemag project, I hope we can learn much together. This seems like a very informed and enthusiastic group.

Also, I'm in the final stages of completing an MA program in TESOL at Teachers College here in Tokyo. Recently I've become interested in computer mediated communication as it pertains to EFL writing instruction in general and student peer conferencing in particular.

Jenny
Jenny coordinates a CALL group of teachers who are interested in computer assisted language learning.

My name is Jenny and I teach at the University of Waikato in Auckland New Zealand. I work in the General English Program and teach mainly Asian students. I taught for five years in Wroclaw Poland before returning to New Zealand two years ago.

I'm very interested in using computers in language learning and coordinate a CALL group at work of teachers who are interested in computer assisted language learning.

I'm studying parttime for a Masters degree at Auckland University and when I have any spare time try to go kayaking. I'm looking forward to sharing ideas.

Anne Fox
Anne Fox would like to encourage students to produce more real language and less exercise English.

My name is Anne Fox. I am a Brit living in Denmark where I teach English in a centre for vocational education.

I spend most of my time in a self access centre where I would like to encourage our students to produce more real language and less exercise English. An online magazine seems like a good way to do this and rather than re-inventing the wheel it will be instructive to see how others have done this.

I have also organised and delivered local one-off online courses so know something about the online environment. I am more than half way through a Master's in TEFL.
