Struggling to Get a Wedding Chest

Tae Hyun Kim from Korea

Struggling to Get a Wedding Chest by TaeHyun Kim from Korea There is a big and funny party on the day before a wedding in Korea. The party usually starts at night. As the party starts, a funny war occurs between the bride's side and the groom's side. To get married to the groom, the bride must get a wedding chest from the groom's side.

On that night, a bride's home turns on all the lights all around her house. First, several friends of a groom appear near the bride's house. The leader of the group loads a wedding chest prepared by the groom including a wedding ring, silk clothes, and silk blankets on his back. Also, he wears a mask made of dried squid and carries a lamp. Then they shout loudly to the neighborhood, "Buy a wedding chest. We sell it to anybody who offers a good price.

Then the man who will be the father-in-law prevents them from selling the chest to somebody. He has to buy that chest for his daughter. He attempts many ways to attract those guys to buy the chest. The first way is money. He puts money enclosed in an envelope on the ground. The messengers of the chest follow the envelopes only a few steps. If that way doesn't work, anymore, the guys sit on the ground and shout again.

Food and alcohol are the second temptation for the guys. It may work or not. The father of the bride has to pursue them to go into his house, but it is not easy. They ask for more money and food. When they almost reach the door of the house, a last operation begins. The beauties, the bride's friends, come out and attract those guys. The beauties distract them, except for the leader. While those guys are having fun with the girls, the bride's family takes the leader by force and makes him go into the house.

After the father of the bride gets the chest, one of the parties is over. During this party, everybody, even the neighbors, have a good time. After that, another party is held.
