Pinocchio
A Favorite Wooden Italian Doll
Alessandra
Federici from Italy
All
children of past generations know the story of
Pinocchio and his kindly father Geppetto.
It's
an endearing tale which has entertained generations
of children while teaching them to respect elderly
people and always tell the truth.
Now,
the famous wooden toy, created by the fairy tale of
Carlo Collodi (the most printed book after the
Bible and the Koran), has been cast off. His place
has been taken by more high tech toys which are
much more appreciated by the children of our
times.
Metal
and plastic have replaced wood. Science-fiction
stories, space adventures and monsters have
overcome the simplicity and sympathy of this famous
puppet.
Moreover,
the moral of the tale is going to be lost! How many
times did our parents tell us not to lie to avoid
growing a nose like Pinocchio's?
I'm
wandering what the warning of parents in the year
2000 will be..."Don't tell lies, or Captain Kirk
will take you to the Enterprise's jail!" or Don't
tell lies, or Mazinga will destroy all your toys!"
or...who knows?
