My
Family's Names
Rodrigo
Cruz from Colombia
It
is funny. In my home, my parents chose some of our
names, thinking about Italian opera singers. When
my father was twenty years old, he was an opera
singer in a opera school in Colombia. He loved to
talk about Italian opera singers and their history.
He learned to play the piano very well and played
it beautifully. Later,
when he got married my mom, he chose some of our
namesDemetrio, Clemente, Miguel, Enrique.
All
of our names are two names combined. My brothers'
name are Hector Miguel, Daniel Clemente, Jairo
Enrique, German Demetrio, and Nestor Emilio. My
sisters' name are Ana Lizzy, Dilma Patricia,
Claudia Virginia, and Diana Marcela. All of these
are longer names.
My
mother chose my name "Rodrigo Armando" because a
good friend had that name. The name of my younger
brother was different. When my parents chose his
name, they thought that the baby would be a girl
because at that time we were five boys and four
girls. They chose the name "Emilia." When he was
born, surprise, he was a boy, so they changed the
name to "Emilio."
Some
people change their names when they become an
adult. I think that choosing a name is difficult
because nobody knows if that name will be good for
who will have it. If the person loves the name, it
will be good. If it is bad, the problem will be
big.
