Eight
years ago, my mother and I spent a long time
deciding what to name my dog. We finally decided
that we would call her Kang-Yang.
In
Korea, we call a puppy Kang-a-ji. So my mom and I
picked the first word Kang. Yang means Miss. It is
a name we give to a woman. At that time her name
had no special meaning, but now it has become a
very beautiful and meaningful name to
me.
The
I remember when she first came to my house. She was
very scared. She would eat anything, so I took care
of her very carefully for a while. Then she began
to warm up to me and to follow me. A few weeks
later, she was getting more active.
One
day when I came home, my dog looked different. That
day, she did not welcome me as she usually did. My
mother did not tell me anything, but the next
morning, I found that she had been hit by a car.
Luckily, she was alive, but her leg was broken.
We
took very good care of her. Later her leg got
better, but she was getting weaker. Finally she got
a secondary illness. She couldn't eat anything, and
she couldn't walk. Moreover, the animal doctor said
that my dog would die. We were feeling
desperate.
When
we saw our dog's eyes, she looked like she might
say something like "Please, don't give up! I want
to live with you!" We couldn't give up, so we did
everything that we could to help her. I almost
never left her side.
Finally,
she recovered. She knew about our efforts and love,
and we hoped she would get better. I still remember
the doctors saying that my dog was very lucky; my
family was so nice to her that it worked. Through
all that pain, we realized that my dog was
something more than an animal. We found out that
she was a member of our family. Also, we learned
the value of health.
The
other day, when I called my mother, I said hello to
my dog. My mom said that she is very healthy and
looks happy. I miss her very much. Please take care
of Kang-Yang!
