The Bowl of Soup

Elisabeth Volquardt from Germany

There are many different kinds of food stands in Germany, However, I would like to tell a little story experienced by a friend of mine, which involves a soup stand, one which is actually not very common in Germany by the way.

This friend bought a bowl of soup at a food stand and had just placed it on a table when she realized that she had forgotten the take a spoon. So, she went for one, leaving the bowl of soup on the table.

When she returned to the table, she was astonished to see a Japanese man sitting at the table, eating her soup. She was very upset, but didn't say a word. However, she has a very good sense of humor.

She deliberately took a seat at the same table in front of him, took her spoon, and began to eat from the same bowl. To her astonishment, he didn't react in the slightest way. He just smiled at her and continued eating.

By sheer chance, a few minutes later, she happened to turn around. To her dismay, there was her own bowl of soup sitting all alone on another table! She would have liked to vanish into thin air. That Japanese man must have been a very altruistic person...or maybe he was just not hungry!
