I Loved That Country Farm

Silvia Marengo from Italy

Everyone has a place which he remembers most from his childhood, and so do I. One of the places I remember from my childhood is a farm in the country which my parents owned in Abruzzo, a region of Italy. I spent my summers in that place until I was a teenager, and only now am I beginning to appreciate the farm again.

It was lovely to stay there. There were a lot of animals—cows, sheep, hens, and naturally dogs and cats. My sister and I sometimes enjoyed helping the country women graze the sheep or make bread or cheese. I can still remember that on Thursdays we made the bread and on Tuesdays, the cheese.

I love that farm because it was there that I learned to love animals and not be scared of them. Sometimes we saw a sheep give birth to its baby, and we enjoyed staying there to see how lovely the little lamb was.

Now my sister and her son are enjoying this place. My nephew is crazy about the place. I hope that he has such a good time there that when he is older, he will remember the place like I do.
