Pokemon is Not the Real Problem

So far, we have seen the Phantom, Batman, and Superman. I remember having Superman caps, PJs, shirts, you name it. Then the Thundercats came, followed by the Power Rangers, Dragon Ball, and now Pokemon.

I don't think Pokemon is the real problem. I think it is just filling new spaces created by new technologies. For example, years ago there wasn't so much television; and we didn't have VCRs, the Internet or other advanced communication devices.

We have to remember when fairy tales were popular, everybody was crazy about them; but they finished and something new came out—new cartoons—as a result of the new developments.

So far, we have seen the Phantom, Batman, and Superman. I remember having Superman caps, PJs, shirts, you name it. Then the Thundercats came, followed by the Power Rangers, Dragon Ball, and now Pokemon.

That's why I said Pokemon is not the problem. It's just a fad that is going to be substituted with something new, maybe in the next few months. Chances are this is going to happen because this is what always happens.

The bottom line is not Pokemon or the new characters. It's how we raise our kids to survive in this marketing world where the people are more interested in buying and selling things than in real values such as friendship and family.

Kids have to learn how to control their anxiety and know when enough is enough, and parents have to learn to keep in touch with their kids. How in the world is it possible for them not to know what their kids are playing with?
