Queen for One Night

Carmen England from Peru

Since I was a small girl, I have always been fascinated by Europe and its magnificent castles. Three months ago, I had the greatest opportunity of my life. Indeed, I had the most unforgettable tour of Europe. I traveled through beautiful cities; however, the most marvelous experience I have ever had was staying at the Hazlewood Castle Hotel, where I played my game, Queen for One Night.

The Hazlewood Castle Hotel is located in the city of York in the North of England. This place dates back to the 13th century and was once a fortified knights residence. It stands on a limestone ridge in 77 acres of parkland. Moreover, it is an idyllic pastoral location.

It recently opened as a luxurious country house hotel. The place is perfect to get the feeling of what life was like centuries ago. For instance most of the unique decorations are original, and they evoke the past. When I took the tour around the castle, I was amazed by the surroundings, rooms, gardens, and waterfall; they were incredibly well conserved after 700 years. I had the impression that I took a trip into the past to the 13th century. Seriously, it was an incredible sensation. I felt tingles in my throat and butterflies in my stomach. I thought I was dreaming.

When my husband and I arrived at the castle, we stayed in one of the most exquisite suites, the Hazleflower. That was when I started to play a game I called Queen for One Night.

The suite overwhelmed my expectations. I could not believe that I was going to spend the night there. It felt like we were back in the 13th century, yet it was so luxurious. I was astonished at the magnificent decoration and detail work, and I thought about all the money spent on it by the owners.

The moon faced my window and I could smell the fragrance of the roses that came from one of the beautiful gardens in front of it. I have always wondered how a queen would have felt centuries ago, so that night I played my fascinating game, pretending to be a queen. I closed my eyes and tried to imagine that I was a queen. Thought it lasted only a short period of time, I experienced a great sensation of might and majesty. That sensation of being a real queen was unforgettable.

The time we spent there will stay in my memories for the rest of my life. After all, my childhood desire to visit and sleep in a castle had been granted. Everybody dreams of being whatever they want. Why don't you try playing the game of your life and imagine you are in somebody else's shoes? You might be amazed by the results.
