Better Smells for Hospitals

Youngil Seo from Korea

Whenever we think of a hospital, we usually remember the smell of ether. It makes us have bad memories about hospitals. I think that the smells in the air in a hospital make patients and visitors nervous and uncomfortable. Nowadays, however, hospitals are beginning to replace unpleasant odors with pleasant fragrances.

In my opinion, it would be a good idea to use different fragrances in each section of the hospital such as the pediatrics unit, the cancer unit, and the obstetrics and gynecology unit.

For example, children are especially afraid of the strange-looking equipment and the strong, unpleasant smells in the pediatrics unit. So, if sweet fragrances such as a candy smell were used in there, the children might feel more relaxed and their fear of the hospiteal could be reduced. Their treatment would probably be more effective as a result.
It would also be good for the hospitals because people wouldn't avoid going there. People might be more willing to spend more money on health care.
