Manipulation
by Smell
Samantha
Wynter from Mexico
Nowadays,
it is incredible the way that companies try to
manipulate us to buy their products. Some
advertising has subliminal messages that you can
not see consciously, but the message hits your
subconscious mind. This is a reality; they are
using our sense of sight and hearing to entice us
to purchase products.
If
you realize that in the near future they are going
to use our most evocative sense, it's frightening.
Most of the time, smell is subconscious, but it
stimulates feelings in us.
Imagine
virtual reality with some odors emanating from the
pictures that you are looking at. Then your mind
will really be manipulated, not only by sight, but
also by your olfactory sense.
Like
colors, smells could have meanings for us such as
peace, violence, and hunger; and they could
represent stages of the mind such as happiness,
sadness, anger, fear, astonishment. How can you
possibly judge something that has already been
judged by someone elso who just puts that feeling
into your mind?
I
don't want to be manipulated, but unfortunately we
live in a society where everybody wants power and
control, so probably this is going to happen. Who
wouldn't like to sell goods easily, or to improve
productivity or to always have "yes" for an answer?
I think everybody does, and they are trying to
manipulate you by your senses and to create a
different reality.
