Since
we were little persons, we have been taught how to
do things, how to resolve mathematical problems; we
have learned world history, geography, and many
other things. Then in the university, we also
learned very interesting stuff, but has anybody
ever taught you how to educate children? Perhaps
NOT; nobody even knows for sure what the best way
is to educate children.
Of
course, this depends on your culture, country, and
education; and perhaps in each case, depending on
the person, the education is different. However, I
think that punishment is always necessary in order
to make the child understand what is acceptable
behavior.
Children
can be punished in very different ways. Punishment
can be physical such as slapping or spanking, or
sometimes even more aggressive as when parents hit
their children. Personally, I disagree with this
kind of punishment. Perhaps a scolding is sometimes
necessary, but for me this is the limit. I believe
that punishing your children with violence will
just lead to more violence, fears, and
traumas.
There
are some punishments that will help children to
understand what is good and what is not, as for
example, forbidding them to do things that they
really like such as playing in the park, riding a
bicycle, or watching TV. If they have misbehaved, I
think that these kinds of punishment will touch
their souls instead of their bodies and can be more
effective.
I
don't have so much experience in this matter
because I don't have any children yet, and perhaps
when I do, I will change my opinion; but right now,
that is what I think.
