If
someone asks which period of my life I have
enjoyed, I say that my university years were a
wonderful period of my life. I got a lot of
experience--happiness, tiredness, achievement, and
disappointment--I could not get from anywhere else.
This helped to strengthen my life.
To
me, the most impressive thing in my college years
was that we freshmen had to dress in traditional
Thai clothes on the last day of our freshman
ceremony.
When
the morning of the last day of the freshman
ceremony arrived, we woke up early to put on the
traditional Thai clothes and give the monks food.
(Thai customs).
As
we were dressing in the clothes, the older
generation shouted at us, "Hurry up! Hurry up!" We
heard that every day during the freshman ceremony.
It was very difficult to dress because it was our
first time.
Men
wore white Thai shirts, a vivid wide strip of cloth
with one end twisted and hitched between the legs,
white striped socks and leather shoes. Also, we
wore the ancient Thai hair style to blend with the
Thai suits.
After
finishing dressing, I stared at myself in the
mirror reflecting the 1700s Thai man. I felt so
proud that I was Thai and preserving my culture and
traditions.
We
too pictures in many historical places such as the
Grand Palace across from my university and Thai
temples. As we were going to those places, people,
some of whom were passengers, tourists, and
foreigners, looked at us, all of whom were dressed
as people coming from the past.
On
that day, we were so happy even though we could
smell each other's unpleasant smell due to the hot
weather. We could see everyone's smiles.
Happiness
on that day made us forget the tiredness in
training on previous freshman ceremony days as
cadets. That we participated in every activity
together created and intensified our relationship
rapidly. This contributed to love within our
generation. The events of those days will be in my
memory forever.
