It Was an
Unforgettable Movie
Ho Hyun
Hwang from Korea
When
I was in elementary school and about thirteen years
old, I saw a famous movie. The movie was called
Once Upon a Time in America. Everybody knew
the movie through advertisements even before the
movie started. Even though I liked watching movies
at that time,
I
had mostly seen light movies like Walt Disney
entertainment. So, it was my own decision to go see
that serious movie. I went to the theater with my
father at 10:00 p.m.
The
screen was a little darker than any other movie
screen, and when the movie started, severe but
tender music was part of each scene. I just felt
impressed sitting in the theater watching a scene
on an epic, huge screen.
The
story seemed to be a big quiet stream of events.
Occasionally, I didn't understand what was
happening in the story because it was too
complicated for me. Also, the character of each
person was specific and unique, and their were many
implied situations. The story would stop and start
again. There was hardly time for movie goers to
think about the special scenes.
I
wasn't upset when I saw that serious movie because
the strange story made me concentrate a lot and was
interesting by itself. Also, my father wasn't
worried about me watching the movie. Anyway, when
the movie finished, I felt somewhat tired, but soon
I could understand the story.
Until
now, that movie has influenced me a lot. I have
enjoyed watching many other movies such as
Waterloo Bridge starring Robert Taylor and
Vivien Leigh, Ben Hur, The
Terminator, The Lion King, and other
Walt Disney moves, but Once Upon a Time in
America remains very special for me. I was able
to understand real American life and adventureous
situations.
That's
the way I like movies, and I have liked Robert De
Niro as an actor ever since I saw him in that movie
for the first time.
