Intervening
in a situation where a stranger is in need
may create a difficult situation for the
person trying to help.
When
Carmen England's father
unhesitatingly stepped forward to help a
stranger in need, there were some
unexpected consequences. His quick actions
saved the man's life, but put him in a
difficult situation.

My
Father's Scary Story
Carmen
England from Peru
Many
years ago, my father told me a real and dangerous
story about helping a stranger who was seriously
injured after being hit by a car.
Early
in the morning he was going to work. He was in a
hurry because that day he had an important
appointment. Suddenly, he saw a man lying in the
street who was bleeding. My father's first
impression was that the man was dead; however, he
didn't hesitate to help him.
My
father couldn't believe the people's apathy towards
this terrible scene. No one was helping the man at
all. Some people were passing by in their cars to
glance at him and then driving on. My father
thought that this kind of indifference between
humans is completely awful and
unacceptable.
Of
course, my father took him to the nearest hospital.
He was afraid that the stranger could die because
he was losing so much blood.
The
incredible situation happened when my father tried
to go back to work. The police stopped him and said
he could not leave the hospital until the man woke
up. The police thought that my father had hit him
in the street. My father was annoyed by that, but
he couldn't do anything. He prayed that the
stranger would recover as soon as
possible.
My
father was worried about the man. He was trying to
help and be kind and human. On the other hand, he
was also worried about himself. If the stranger did
not survive, my father would be charged with
murder. He was feeling very nervous and stressed
because he didn't know what was going to happen to
the stranger.
Fortunately,
the stranger woke up and talked to the police, and
my father was released and no longer considered a
suspect. He left the hospital feeling very strange.
He felt happy because he had saved a human being,
but at the same time he felt stressed because if
the stranger had died, he would have been in big
trouble.
