...tattooing is a reflection of who you are, what you like, and what your beliefs stand for.

Ayesha Mohammed read about tattooing viewed as art and the history behind it in human cultures before she made the decision to get a tattoo.

Before I talk about my tattoo, I would like to name some of the most famous styles in tattooing: Japanese style, tribal-ancient designs, Native American designs, Celtic European, black work beauty in simplicity, badges of allegiance, humor and cartoons, death and horror, myths and legends, fantasy art, portraits, flora and fauna, and last the abstract art.

My tattoo is an angel
My tattoo is an angel with an eagle at the bottom of its wings, embracing a human being who also has wings. The drawing to me represents freedom of the spirit, and that I believe angels are among us constantly lifting our spirits with their wings. The eagle is my
guardian and shows me the path to follow next. My tattoo doesn't have a sex, that's why I like it so much. Also, the fact that it is the only one in the world makes it even more special.

When I lived in Mexico, I was hesitant about getting a tattoo because in my country tattooing is viewed as taboo, and there are a lot of people with tattoos that are not fully accepted by our culture as an art form. Furthermore, my family didn't agree with this kind of expression either, so I kept waiting for the right moment to get one, and when it came I did it.

Also, I remember when I was in high school six years ago my view of tattooing was really very naive. I just thought it was cool and that it looked pretty. I wasn't aware of the commitment for having one; however, when I came to the United States, I started reading more about tattooing viewed as art and the history behind it in human cultures. It wasn't until then that I felt the passion for tattoos grow inside me as a need to express myself and that I understood that tattooing is a reflection of who you are, what you like, and what your beliefs stand for.

This is why I'm thinking about my next tattoo carefully because I want a beautiful piece of art on my body. I will probably finish tattooing my whole back and then go from there to other parts of my body. I hate to say this, but my tattoos are going to be on parts of my body that people don't see very often because if I go back to Mexico, I want to be able to find a job. That way I can cover them up and have no problems. A tattoo is for life with no regrets about it.
