What
did your Mother tell you to eat or not eat
when you were a child?

Danilo
Quiñones from
Colombia
When
I was a child, my mother always told me
that I could eat any kind of food, but she
said to be careful not to eat too much
salt and sugar because an excess could
affect my health when I got older. She
said it would probably make me sick, and I
would have high blood pressure and
diabetes. I listened to her, and today, I
think that I have good health. "Thanks,
Mom!"

Ngoc-Anh
Thi Ho from Vietnam
When
I was a child, my mother always took care
of me very, very well. Because my teeth
were very weak, she didn't want me to eat
ice cream. I remember when she went out
with me--for example, when we went to the
zoo--she never bought ice cream for me. I
loved my mother, and I didn't want her to
be sad, so I never ate ice cream until I
was older.

Amer
Jorbarani from Syria
Even
though I didn't like milk, my mother
always forced me to drink it. Everyday,
before I left for school, she was always
waiting for me at the door of the house
with a cup of milk. It is very hard to eat
or drink something you don't like, but she
didn't understand that. I didn't like milk
then, I don't like it now, and I will
never like it.>

Herón
Pacheco from Mexico
When
I was a child, my mother always told me I
needed to eat lots of vegetables and fruit
and drink more milk. She said if I ate
healthy food, I would grow up to be a
healthy man. Now I know that was good
advice from my mom.

Mehmet
Ali Comert
from Turkey
During
my childhood, my mother had a big
influence on my eating habits. She always
urged me to eat vegetables. I'll never
forget when I was 12 years old, and we
were about to have our lunch. The meal was
okra. As soon as I saw the okra, I got
mad; but my mother made me taste it. I was
surprised. I discovered I liked it. I
still do!
