My
Grandmother's Life
Maki
Kubo from Japan
My
grandmother died when she was 87 years old in 1991.
I am proud of her because of her life. Although she
was not wealthy, she always had a smile on her face
and never talked behind anyone's back.
She
wore kimonos (Japanese traditional clothes)
her whole life. She sacrificed her life for her
eight children and her husband.
About
fifty years ago, there were not any electrical
appliances such as a vaccuum cleaner, a washing
machine, or a dish washer. Therefore, she was very
busy, and her housework was very hard because her
husband never helped her.
When
I was a child, she always told me about her life. I
liked to listen to her stories because she said
that she was happy whenever she began to tell
them.
