The first step is a marriage promise; a man proposes to his girlfriend. Then the parents of both the bride and the bridegroom spend a lot of time preparing for this special day. The man should never see his girlfriend before the ceremony when she is trying on her wedding dress because it is bad luck.
The religious ceremony is almost always in the evening and on the weekend. In the ceremony both the bride and bridegroom wear special clothes. She wears a white wedding dress, and he wears a black suit. The church is decorated with many white bouquets of flowers. When the bride and bridegroom go into the church, there is nuptial music, and they walk on red rose petals.
During the ceremony, the bride gives her pledge coins that the minister blesses in their hands. Both the bride and the bridegroom exchange marriage rings as a symbol of union. When they kneel down, the godfather puts a special rope to join the two of them. When the ceremony is finished, the bride and bridegroom go out of the church, and everybody throws rice at them. After the wedding, all the people go to a special place and enjoy music, food, games, and dancing.
