Two Young Girls Raised a Seeing-Eye Puppy

Dana, Stormy, Lady Dana, Stormy, and Lady

Chizuru Kurono from Japan

No one wants to say "Good-bye" to their pet, but two sisters had to do just that. When Stormy Peters was 10 years old and Dana Peters was eight years old, they eventually had to part with their beloved dog Lady (a Hungarian hunting dog) because it was going to be trained as a seeing eye dog.

The girls loved their dog Lady, but they said "If she's going to help a blind person, it's okay to give her back."

After being raised as puppies by volunteers like Stormy and Dana, the dogs have to train hard to become seeing-eye dogs. First, they have an extensive three-to-four month training period.

Then the dog and the blind person for whom the dog will be a partner are trained together for four weeks to help the two of them bond and form a good relationship together.
