Life with Terra, My Seeing-Eye Dog Jesus Majadas from Spain Photo: Jesus Majadas I have a baby boy, so another good thing is my dog watches out for him, too. A seeing eye dog is very special. One good thing about having a dog is that you can go anywhere in the city safely. I live in Barcelona, Spain. It's a big city, and there are many cars, but my dog Terra goes to work with me every morning and doesn't let me walk in the street and get hit by a car. Terra also guides me safely in "el metro" (the subway). I have a baby boy, so another good thing is my dog watches out for him, too. I can put the baby in his stroller, and Terra makes sure we are both okay. I have had Terra for ten years, so she is never jealous when the baby gets attention. Terra likes to play, too. When we are ready to go out, I hold the harness high over my head, and she leaps up into it. But when the harness is on, she stops playing. She knows she has a job to do. A seeing eye dog is very special. In the past, people in Spain had to get their seeing eye dogs from the United States. It was not easy because there weren't enough dogs. People had to wait several years. Now there is a school in Madrid that trains seeing-eye dogs, so it is easier and faster to get dogs. Having a dog is work. You have to feed it and bathe it, but I am happy to do this because Terra is a very special friend and helper.
